REPRODUCTION OPTIONS FOR U.C. USERS OF THE MAP & IMAGERY LABORATORY
MIL has two photocopiers in-house: a copier identical to the
library's coin-operated machines for black and white copies of map and text
materials only; and a high-end color copier for maps, texts, and
non-copyrighted, print-format aerial photography that is not available in a
digital file. MIL also has a large-format plotter (HP DesignJet
5000) for which appointments must be scheduled.
*Paper sizes available on copiers and printers are 8
˝” x 11” and 11” x 17”. *Enlargements
and reductions can be made.
*Maximum paper size for the plotter is 60”; 600dpi x 600dpi.
*MIL does not make overhead transparencies.
*Aerial
photographs do not circulate from MIL. Reproduction options for the aerial
photographs (only for those frames for which UC Regents hold reproduction
rights) are:
a.
on-file scanned air photos: printout on MIL printers (8 ˝” x 11” and 11” x
17”); download to MIL write-able CD;
b. hardcopy air photos (no MIL scans on file):
high-end copier, $2 per frame; or bring in your own digital camera;
c. photographic reproductions: custom
reproductions may be arranged with Pacific Western Aerial Surveys.
*Maps and
atlases published 50 or more years ago, or in poor condition, do not circulate
outside the department.
*Some but
not all atlases in MIL’s closed-stack locations
circulate, generally for 7 days.
*Faculty,
graduate students and staff may borrow most maps for 1 to 3 days.
BLACK AND WHITE COPIES ON THE BLACK AND
WHITE COPIER (MAPS AND ATLASES ONLY)
*MIL will make one free black and white copy per map
from the collection, and up to 10 pages from any text
within the closed-stack section of MIL. If the number of copies the patron
requires exceeds MIL's limits (staff discretion is
applied in these situations), the patron may check the map out to obtain
additional copies on coin-operated machines.
Checkout requires a library card or a UCSB ID/access card.
Maps and atlases from inside of MIL do not circulate after 5 p.m.
*Text
items from the Public Area stacks (MIL Public Area) outside MIL's
doors are not copied in MIL; the patron may either check the item out at the
main circulation desk or take the item to the coin-operated machines elsewhere
in the library.
*See also COPYRIGHT
section.
COLOR COPIES ON THE HIGH-END COLOR
COPIER
This
copier is available on a limited basis; no copies are made after 4:30pm. You may be asked to return later to pick up
copies, or you may prefer to have the copies mailed to you via campus mail or
at no charge for regular postage.
Color copies of maps and aerial
photographs (regardless of paper
size used in the photocopier) are $2.00
per copy page.
For
aerial photos, patron provides (on imagery-search sheet) information on class
name, number, professor and a description of the research project for which the
photograph is being used. If photos are
available in digital format the reproduction will be copied to cd or printed from the digital file; the high-end color copier will not be
used.
Sample copies of aerial
photos reproduced on the high-end copier are available for review on the
Ready-Reference shelf.
