Some MIL materials are circulated to UC users who present an
academic library card or an Access card with perm number for current academic
quarter, or to employees of UC who present a library card. With the exception
of book-format materials in MIL Public Area stacks, MIL’s circulating materials
are to be checked out before 4:50pm.
MAPS:
Maps not stamped REFERENCE or DO NOT
CIRCULATE circulate to faculty, graduate students and staff of UCSB for a
period of 1 to 3 days.
Maps may be checked out to undergraduates
for presentations or for options outlined in the policy on PHOTOCOPY OPTIONS
FOR U.C. USERS. If checked out for
presentation use, the loan period is limited to time needed for the
presentation; this is usually a few hours, not to exceed one day unless
presentation is off campus or after MIL hours of operation. MIL will be glad to provide binder clips to
hang the maps.
A circulation slip is filled out, the
user’s library or access card is copied with the form, and the photocopy is
kept in MIL’s files; as the user leaves the library, the user will give the tube
to a Circulation staff person, who will pass the tube around the exit.
Please read carefully the CONDITIONS FOR
USE OF MIL MATERIALS. These conditions
are posted on the outside of the circulation map tubes.
IMAGERY:
Imagery does not circulate. There are several different options for
reproduction of non-copyrighted frames; REPRODUCTION OPTIONS FOR U.C.

and reference books circulate for regular loan period through main Circulation

All other book materials are circulated by manual
checkout from MIL and then checked out again at the main circulation desk.
MIL Map, MIL Map Oversize, MIL Imagery and MIL
Digital books without a red adhesive dot on the spine circulate for 7 days and
may be renewed. Books with a red dot on spine must receive permission of the
assistant head of the department for circulation.
DIGITAL DATA:
CDs/DVDs circulate for a limited loan period of 7
days; they are checked out manually in MIL only, not at the main circulation
desk, and are returned to MIL.
Software does not circulate. Software manuals may in
some cases circulate for the duration of periods MIL are closed; these may be
checked out between 4:30 and 4:50pm on days MIL is open, to be returned to MIL
the next day MIL is open between 9 and 10am.
During the academic quarter circulation period is limited to weekends
only; during break periods overnight checkouts are allowed.
